We’re playing with shapes and gearing up for our Student Summer Showcase!

Our studio will be closed Monday, April 8th due to the travel restrictions with the eclipse.

Shape-ril is Back!

Each month at Cleveland Eclectic Dance, we focus on a different skill, topic, style of dance, or body part in all of regular classes.

This month at CED, we’re focusing on the fun and intriguing shapes we can make while dancing.

Think of this almost as a month all about poses. In your dance based classes, we will concentrate on taking a few breaths when we pose, and finding new ways to change our lines.  In aerial classes, there will be a focus on mastering basic holds (while also being able to breath and smile), and then adding on arm and leg variations to change the shape.

This will be a month for upping your selfie game. No more screen-capping from videos, we’ll be working on holding the poses so that your pole friends can take an actual picture of you in the move.

Upcoming Specialty Classes & Series

Intro to Pole
Saturday, April 6th 10:00-11:30am
In Studio Only

New to pole? Has it been a while and you’re looking for an opportunity to start again? This 90 minute workshop will have you dancing by the end of it!

The focus during class will be on spins, holds, and dancing around a fixed point – aka, the pole.

No matter what you think your strength is like, moves can be modified to match your individual fitness level. (Yes, this means they can be modified in multiple ways to many skill levels.)

THIS CLASS IS NOT REQUIRED FOR JOINING OUR WEEKLY POLE CLASSES, though this workshop is intended for those that want to learn with others that are working on Pole Level 1 moves exclusively.

Please wear workout clothes, but shorts in particular. You will need your legs bare in order to be able to grip the pole. Similarly, please refrain from applying lotion for at least 6 hours prior to class. You will be barefoot for class.

This class is $30 per person.

Threads & Weaves
Sundays, April 7th-28th 2:15-3:15pm
In Studio Only

Wind around the pole turning in unexpected directions in different swirl patterns of leg work while moving through the spaces between your body, the pole, and the floor. Threads and weaves takes a look at types of low flow and floorwork techniques that are fundamental building blocks in Strip Plastic, and Russian Exotic seamless flow styles of pole, but also in Hard Styles. Hardstyle movement phrases end in accents like shoe bangs, and hard floor landing, so there’s a little something for everyone in this class. While threading is a primary feature of these styles, it’s useful to have some experience in navigating the low flow space in this way for all kinds of transitions that are amazing in any pole routine.

After 4 weeks you will have some standing threads, lower weaves between pole and floor, and some elements off pole in the realm of floorwork. By the final week you will be working on combos to bring these elements together.

Levels 2 and up. Thick socks and knee protection is highly recommended. Shoes are a feature of this style but they are also optional for this class. A lot of learning is done without, and I often see these techniques being done in socks to take advantage of the slipperiness. Contact Roxi for any questions.

The class is $70 for all four weeks, and is included on all Pole Flex Passes and Unlimited Passes.

Beginner Chair Dance
Sundays, April 7th 3:30-5:30pm
In Studio Only

Build a solid foundation in chair dance! By the end of this specialty class you will feel comfortable in a variety of sexy posed chair positions, and will have learned how to connect them in different ways. You can then take this to add a new layer to a private dance, to use in burlesque, or a good foundation to more acrobatic chair skills in the future.

Wear comfortable clothing you can freely move in. We will learn bare foot, but you are welcome to bring heels if you want to try the moves with shoes on.

Brand new beginners welcome!

This class is $25 per person.

Intro to Lyra
Saturday, April 13th 1:30-3:00pm
In Studio Only

Intro to Lyra is a 90-minute workshop designed for the aerial-curious! This class is all about moving with and on the lyra – an aerial hoop rigged from the ceiling – and how that may differ from other activities such as pole.

Great for total beginners to dance and fitness, as well as those looking for a thorough review of basic lyra techniques, this workshop will adapt to meet students at their individual level.

Expect to interact with the lyra through introductory conditioning exercises, gentle spins, climbs, static poses, and transitions. At the end of the workshop, students will have 2 mini combos to choose from to practice, with the option of going upside down.

No prior experience with dance or fitness is required. Upper body strength is not a requirement for this workshop, as hoops can be hung low to accommodate beginner fitness levels.

Please wear:
– long yoga pants or leggings so that skin is covered
– form fitting clothes, so that excess or baggy fabric does not get stuck

This class is $35 per person.

Connect with Your Breath
Sunday, April 21st 3:30-4:30pm
In Studio only

“REMEMBER TO BREATHE!” Great instruction in pole, aerial, and yoga class. But how do we access our breath when trying a new trick or pose, moving through transitions, or doing something scary? In this workshop you will learn practices to help you connect with your breath every day so the awareness is there whenever you need it to be: in class, in practice, before a performance, and even before sleep.

The class will begin and end with gentle yoga asana. There are plenty of mats at the studio for you to use; please bring a bolster if you have one or a pillow. Feel free to bring a notebook and pen if you’d like too.

Taught by Missy Grieco, CYT-200, singer

This class is $15 per person, and included on all Dance & Fitness Flex passes and Unlimited Passes.

Striptease Basics: Undress for any Occasion
Thursdays, May 2nd-23rd 6:15-7:15pmpm
In Studio Only

We’ll go beyond learning a cookie cutter striptease routine during this four week series, and will work towards feeling prepared and confident to perform an impromptu striptease wearing whatever you already have on.

During this class you will learn erotic dance basics, posing, and formulas for clothing removal. We will put this all together into a loose routine you can take home, as well as working towards taking off your clothes with confidence on a daily basis. Our big goal for the end of the series is for you to realize just how sexy you already are, and what a gift you are already giving to anyone you undress for.

For the first class, please wear comfortable clothes that you can move easily in. If you are already confident in heels, please do bring a pair, but they are not a requirement.

This class is $50 for all four weeks, and is included on all Dance & Fitness Flex Passes and Unlimited Passes.

Restorative Yoga
Saturday, May 11th 1:30-2:45pm

Rest is a right, not a reward. Your whole human person needs rest (and restoration) to live fully in the world.

Join us for a 75-minute yoga class focused on gentle, deep, supported poses to help you reset your body and mind. The class will include a short guided meditation.

Please bring a bolster and blanket in addition to your yoga mat. If you do not have a bolster or yoga mat, we have some for use during class.

This class is $20 per person.
