It’s Shape-ril at CED!

Each month at Cleveland Eclectic Dance, we focus on a different skill, topic, style of dance, or body part in all of regular classes.

This month at CED, we’re focusing on the fun and intriguing shapes we can make while dancing.

Think of this almost as a month all about poses. In your dance based classes, we will concentrate on taking a few breaths when we pose, and finding new ways to change our lines.  In aerial classes, there will be a focus on mastering basic holds (while also being able to breath and smile), and then adding on arm and leg variations to change the shape.

This will be a month for upping your selfie game. No more screen-capping from videos, we’ll be working on holding the poses so that your pole friends can take an actual picture of you in the move.

We are also debuting a brand new Yoga series all about playing with shapes.

Yoga Shapes: Triangles, Twists, & Trees

Stay flexy through Shape-ril by deepening your yoga practice and supporting your other forms of movement.

Please wear comfortable, stretchy clothing you can move easily in. You may bring your own mat or borrow one from the studio.

This class is $50 or 9 tokens for all three weeks, and is included on all Unlimited Passes.

Stripper Style Choreography
Saturdays, April 12th-May 17th 2:30-3:30pm
In Studio Only

Rooted in Classic American Stripper Style with added elements of Strip Plastique/Russian Exotic, this series blends pole choreography with dynamic transitions, unexpected direction changes, and options for doubles work and lap dance. If you have a pole friend, this is a great chance to sign up together and explore partner elements in the choreo!

This series is designed for students who are confident with climbing and controlling a Fan (somewhere around level 3+). No inverts are required, but you should be comfortable with positional and shape changes in any pole sits or holds after having climbed up. No prior experience with doubles work or lap dance is needed—we’ll explore these elements together throughout the series.

Choreography will be modular, meaning we can adjust moves to fit your skill level. Each week builds on the last, but you don’t need to master the entire routine—take what serves your pole journey and work at your own pace. While heels are welcome, they are not required for this series—barefoot or socks are preferred. Knee pads are optional, as floorwork will be minimal, but movement may evolve as we build the choreography.

This is a progressive series, so signing up means committing to all six weeks. If you have any questions about whether this class is right for you, contact Roxi before enrolling! There will also be an optional opportunity to perform at the Student Showcase for those who feel ready.

This class is $130 or 24 tokens for all six weeks, and is included on all Unlimited Passes.

Lyra & Dance
Thursdays, April 17th-May 8th 6:30-7:30pm
In studio only

Lyra & Dance is a class for students interested in adding improvisational musicality to their lyra practice.

Instead of focusing on static poses, this series will be dedicated towards learning transitions, moving with intention to music, body awareness, and making a pose last. Students will be given small building blocks of choreography as well as prompts for improvisation to build confidence with dancing with the lyra in ways that are unique to them and their favorite songs.

Desired prerequisites include comfort with hocks hang, delilah, back balance, and front balance; however, anyone interested in combining their existing lyra practice with dance is encouraged to join. Modifications will be made to meet students where they are at, though this class is not for those with no prior lyra experience.

Please wear form-fitting clothes covering knees and thighs, and bring socks for spins.

This class is $110 or 20 tokens for all four weeks, and is included on all Unlimited Passes.

We welcome all students with belly dance experience either from completing Belly Dance 101 at CED, or from training elsewhere, to learn a group belly dance choreography number!

Since this is a choreography class that builds to a full song routine, please make sure you start attending no later than the second week of class to give you plenty of time to learn the dance.

This series will culminate in an opportunity to perform at our Summer Student Showcase on Sunday, June 1st.

Seasonal Somatics
Sunday, May 4th 1:30-3:00pm

In Studio Only

Does your movement practice change at different times of the year? Are there seasons where you have to drag yourself to the studio, and some where you have energy for multiple classes a day? Accepting these changes as they come, instead of pushing to train the same way all year round, can often lead to more breakthroughs and help us avoid burn out.

In this 90-minute spring workshop, we’ll be taking a break from drills and focus in on how our bodies want to move. We’ll kickstart our curiosity through mindfulness practices, journaling, discussion, and end with exploratory time on our apparatus. While the exploration section will be facilitated with lyra in mind, students with a strong, independent grasp of another modality are warmly invited to join (such as pole or belly dance).

This class is $40 or 7 tokens, and is included on all Unlimited Passes.

Booty by Créé La Beauté
Mondays, May 5th-19th 6:00-7:00pm

In Studio Only

Get ready to shake, sculpt, and slay in Créé La Beauté’s 3-Week Twerk Series! This once-a-week program is designed to help you build confidence, master twerk fundamentals, and develop a smooth, controlled bounce—all while having fun and breaking a sweat!

Each week, we’ll focus on technique, endurance, and choreography, gradually building your skills so you leave feeling empowered and in control of your movement. Whether you’re a beginner or looking to refine your twerk game, this class is perfect for you!

By the end of the series, you’ll have:
A solid foundation in twerk basics
Improved stamina and coordination
A full routine to show off
A boost in confidence and self-expression

No experience needed—just bring your energy and be ready to move!

What to Wear:
• Booty shorts or leggings (fitted bottoms help with movement)
• Knee pads (for comfort during floorwork)
• Sneakers, socks, or barefoot (whatever feels best for you)
• Fitted top or sports bra (for support and comfort)
• Hydration (because we’re bringing the heat!)

This class is $50 or 9 tokens for all three weeks, and is included on all Unlimited Passes.

Lyra Balance, Control, & Body Awareness
Thursday May 8th 7:45-9:00pm

In Studio Only

In this class, we’ll work on techniques that sharpen our lyra movement, both in static poses and flow.

We’ll start by building knowledge of the body mechanics and geometry that help us maintain control while the hoop moves us. Then we’ll practice this technique in a variety of ways, designed to help the brain not just remember new information but start to make it intuitive.

Come through for a holistic learning experience on lyra technique, bodily trust, and the psychology of practice!

This class is $35 or 6 tokens, and is included on all Unlimited Passes.

Stripper Style Night
Friday, May 9th 8:30-10:30
pm
In Studio Only

Stripper Style Night:
Part 1: Learn some moves in a Stripper Style Class. 8:30-9:30pm
Former stripper and Dance Like a Stripper course instructor, Roxi, will give you a 1 hour crash course in stripper style movement, getting in character, and feelin’ yourself. There will not be any pole tricks taught, since just learning a pole trick can take half the class time. We will go over how to hold onto the pole, walk around it, and use it as a prop for posing as well as getting up and down off the floor. A small combo putting moves together will be taught. We will end with a game about how to get comfortable remixing that combo and adding your own moves, which will lead you into part 2 of the evening.

Part 2: Now it’s grow-up playtime! 9:30pm-10:30pm Let loose with what you’ve learned and it in an uninhibited space complete with low, club-like lighting. (This is open dance time. You do not have to stay the whole 2nd hour.)

We are there to create a supportive environment while you get freaky in our open practice time with all the club lights on and music up. Roxi will be happy to answer some more questions, give you more suggestions, do a couple demos, but this is not about teaching. The best way to learn to be a stripper is to start moving and playing like one. We are there to provide that space for you with the music and lights, and lots of encouragement.

Heels are not required but always welcome. You also may want knee protection if you like a lot of floor grinding.

This class is $35 or 6 tokens, and is included on all Unlimited Passes.
