Every month at CED is Pride Month, so June is just Flexibility Month.

June is Flexibility Month!

Each month at Cleveland Eclectic Dance we focus on a different skill, style of dance, or body part in all of regular classes.  This month at CED, we will be focusing on safely increasing flexibility.

In all of your classes this month, there will be an added focus on training for flexibility, and moves that require added flexibility (or look like they do).

To help you with your flexibility goals, we offer a weekly Functional Flexibility class every Tuesday at 8pm.

Featured Class for the Month

Freestyle Pole
Thursday June 5th 7:15-8:30pm

In Studio Only

“I can’t think of anything to do, my mind goes blank, or I just freeze”

Is this what you say whenever your teacher tells you it’s time to freestyle? This class will give you the extra fluff you need to put things together, and feel confident while freestyling!

We will work on getting to the floor, floorwork, and getting up from the floor. You will learn some patterns to keep in your head to keep you moving.

Freestyle is feasible with practice, practice, and practice!

This class is $30 or 5 tokens, and is included on all Unlimited Passes.

Unlocking Ayesha
Sunday, June 8th 1:15-2:45pm
In Studio Only

Turn your spit grip upside down and get your Ayesha.

This pole skill is always a big one on pole goal lists. It looks super human. It’s fun to do. And it also unlocks training toward more advanced pole skills. It’s also one of the hardest skills to achieve the first time.

This specialty class is a deep dive covering what you need to know to progress on nailing this move. We will start with the anatomy which reviews the key muscle engagements, and the biomechanics where you will learn the theory about how the gravitational and leverage forces come together for balance. We will look at common alignment and engagement errors, and how to correct them. Then we will spend some time on the poles.

We will mainly cover split grip, but cup and twisted grip mechanics will also be addressed. This class does not cover Handsprings or Ayesha variations.

Each student’s current progress will be assessed, even if that is still a Butterfly, and suggestions given for improvement. Strength and Conditioning exercises will also be given, also with exercises that you can do when you are away from a pole.

Pre-requisites: You MUST have a solid standard Butterfly, and be comfortable holding an Inverted Crucifix (solid leg grip in this). Bonus skills you could have but are not required to have: being comfortable getting into a reverse mount and/or pole drills for working caterpillar climb. Do not worry if you have not started working on ayesha officially as long as you have the requirements. Please contact Roxi if you aren’t sure about this class.

This class is $35 or 6 tokens, and is included on all Unlimited Passes.

This class is a 101 for all levels; whether you are brand new to burlesque or looking to brush up on technique and learn some tips and tricks, all are welcome!

Your enrollment in this series includes week by week dance skills videos that reinforce what you’ve just learned, making it easy to practice at home. This open event welcomes the Pole, Aerial, Movement, and Dance communities—our students and beyond—for an evening centered on freedom of expression, creativity, and connection.

Lyra 101
Wednesdays, June 18th – July 9th 7:15-8:15pm
In Studio Only

Lyra 101 is a 4-week series designed for the aerial-curious! This class is all about moving with and on the lyra – an aerial hoop rigged from the ceiling – and how that may differ from other activities such as pole.

Great for total beginners to dance and fitness, as well as those looking for a thorough review of basic lyra techniques, this workshop will adapt to meet students at their individual level.

Expect to interact with the lyra through introductory conditioning exercises, gentle spins, climbs, static poses, and combos.

No prior experience with dance or fitness is required. Upper body strength is not a requirement for this workshop, as hoops can be hung low to accommodate beginner fitness levels.

Please wear:
– long yoga pants or leggings so that skin is covered
– form fitting clothes, so that excess or baggy fabric does not get stuck.

This class is $110 or 20 class tokens for all four weeks, and is included on all Unlimited Passes.

Dancing with the Pole
Monday, July 7th 8:00-9:00pm
In studio only

No tricks, spins, or climbs; just vibes.

In this beginner friendly pole class we’ll learn how to use the pole as a dance partner while keeping both feet on the ground. We’ll cover hip circles, figure 8’s, and body waves to begin with, then we’ll string them together into customizable flows.

This class is perfect for those that want a dance-based introduction to pole, and for existing pole students that want to add some stripper style flow to their freestyles.

Please wear workout clothes, but shorts in particular. You will need your legs bare in order to be able to grip the pole. Similarly, please refrain from applying lotion for at least 6 hours prior to class. You will be barefoot for class.

This class is $21 or 4 tokens, and is included on all Unlimited Passes.

Spin Pole Progressions
Tuesday, July 8th 6:45-7:45pm
In studio only

Yes, the pole itself can rotate.

In this class, you’ll focus on transitioning through various shapes and fluid movements while on the pole while it is on spin mode. Tara will guide you through a series of spins and combinations, helping you build strength, flexibility, and body awareness.

Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced pole dancer, this class is designed for all levels, offering progressions and modifications to suit your abilities. You’ll leave feeling empowered and more confident in your pole technique.

All are welcome to join and experience the magic of spin pole – Tara’s favorite way to move!

This class is $21 or 4 tokens, and is included on all Unlimited Passes.

Superhero Clinic
Wednesday, July 9th 7:15-8:15pm
In Studio Only

Superhero is one of the most iconic pole moves you’ll come across, and in this workshop, we’re breaking it down so it actually makes sense in your body. We’ll cover the contact points, muscle engagement, and coordination needed to access and sustain the move, with strength drills and entry practice to meet you wherever you are with this pose.

Whether you’re brand new to Superhero, almost there but struggling with control or comfort, or you already have it and want to explore new entry options, this workshop is designed to adapt. We’ll look at floor-based setups for newer students, work through the Jasmine entry for those who are ready, and explore other approaches depending on who’s in the room.

And because the shape only comes alive once you can relax into it, we’ll also focus on reducing tension, softening your “pain face,” and creating clean lines and expression through your legs and free arm.

We’ll meet you at the intersection of technique and your body’s current ability, giving you what you need to make progress in this complex trick, or maybe finally nail it. This class is for levels 2 and up!

This class is $21 or 4 tokens, and is included on all Unlimited Passes.
