May will bring us the return of twerk classes, a new lyra class, and more chances to get help with your routine for the Summer Student Showcase in June.

May is Booty Month!
Each month at Cleveland Eclectic Dance, we focus on a different skill, style of dance, or body part in all of regular classes. This month at CED, it’s all about that booty.
In all of your classes this month we will include some kind of booty work. You will work on twerk moves in most of your pole classes. In other styles of dance there will be a focus on strengthening your glutes.
We will be offering three specialty series to help you achieve your Booty Month goals

This class is $50 or 9 tokens for all three weeks, and is included on all Unlimited Passes.

Grind & Shine
Wednesdays, May 21st-June 11th 7:15-8:15pm
In Studio
In this 4-class series, we’re looking at hip grinds beyond being just a “simple booty move.” This is about mastering hip isolation that strengthens your pelvic floor, improves body control, and feels incredible. Dismiss this move at your own risk; it’s a powerful tool that boosts fitness and mood but is also a staple of stripper style and many other dance forms.
Hip grinds are more than they seem. Learn how to control your hips with precision. We’ll break down grinds in standing, floorwork, with a chair, or even using a pole or wall. Each of these will be taught separately, giving you a full toolbox of moves you can connect later with practice.
Strengthen and Support: This isn’t just moving your hips for fun. You’ll isolate key muscles to build strength and stability throughout your lower body and pelvic floor, enhancing your body’s overall function.
Feel Good in Your Body: Moving your hips can release built-up tension, negativity, and even shame that we carry in our bodies. It’s not only a great workout but also a way to reconnect and feel more at ease in your skin.
Boost Your Dance Skills: Whether in pole, burlesque, belly dance, or just for yourself, hip grinds are essential. We’ll explore how to use them in different styles and settings.
Oh, and Lap Dances: And of course, you’ll pick up a killer lap dance move with a few ways to use it on someone else’s body. We’ll focus mainly on stripper styles of grinds, but you’ll walk away with skills you can use anywhere.
Heels are optional, socks and knee pads highly recommended for floorwork portions. Wear whatever gives you freedom of movement and makes you feel amazing.
Note: Using grids with the pole and in some tricks will be addressed as appropriate to each student’s individual pole experience, but there are no prerequisites. This is not a pole class. Open to anyone ready to grind & shine!
This class is $70 or 12 tokens, and is included on all Unlimited Passes.
More Specialty Classes & Series
Seasonal Somatics
Sunday, May 4th 1:30-3:00pm
In Studio Only
Does your movement practice change at different times of the year? Are there seasons where you have to drag yourself to the studio, and some where you have energy for multiple classes a day? Accepting these changes as they come, instead of pushing to train the same way all year round, can often lead to more breakthroughs and help us avoid burn out.

In this 90-minute spring workshop, we’ll be taking a break from drills and focus in on how our bodies want to move. We’ll kickstart our curiosity through mindfulness practices, journaling, discussion, and end with exploratory time on our apparatus. While the exploration section will be facilitated with lyra in mind, students with a strong, independent grasp of another modality are warmly invited to join (such as pole or belly dance).
This class is $40 or 7 tokens, and is included on all Unlimited Passes.

Lyra Balance, Control, & Body Awareness
Thursday, May 8th 7:45-9:00pm
In Studio Only
In this class, we’ll work on techniques that sharpen our lyra movement, both in static poses and flow.
We’ll start by building knowledge of the body mechanics and geometry that help us maintain control while the hoop moves us. Then we’ll practice this technique in a variety of ways, designed to help the brain not just remember new information but start to make it intuitive.
Come through for a holistic learning experience on lyra technique, bodily trust, and the psychology of practice!
This class is $35 or 6 tokens, and is included on all Unlimited Passes.
Stripper Style Night
Friday, May 9th 8:30-10:30pm
In Studio Only
8:30-9:30pm, 1st hour: Learn some moves in a Stripper Style Class. Former stripper and Dance Like a Stripper course instructor, Roxi, will give you a crash course in stripper style movement, getting in character, and feelin’ yourself. There will not be any pole tricks taught, since just learning a pole trick can take half the class time. We will go over how to hold onto the pole, walk around it, and use it as a prop for posing as well as getting up and down off the floor. A small combo putting moves together will be taught. We will end with a game about how to get comfortable remixing that combo and adding your own moves, which will lead you into part 2 of the evening.
9:30pm-10:30pm Part 2: Now it’s grow-up playtime! Let loose with what you’ve learned and it in an uninhibited space complete with low, club-like lighting. (This is open dance time. You do not have to stay the whole 2nd hour.)

We are there to create a supportive environment while you get freaky in our open practice time with all the club lights on and music up. Roxi will be happy to answer some more questions, give you more suggestions, do a couple demos, but this is not about teaching. The best way to learn to be a stripper is to start moving and playing like one. We are there to provide that space for you with the music and lights, and lots of encouragement.
Heels are not required but always welcome. You also may want knee protection if you like a lot of floor grinding.
This class is $35 or 6 tokens, and is included on all Unlimited Passes.

Unlocking Ayesha
Sunday, June 8th 1:15-2:45pm
In Studio Only
Turn your spit grip upside down and get your Ayesha.
This pole skill is always a big one on pole goal lists. It looks super human. It’s fun to do. And it also unlocks training toward more advanced pole skills. It’s also one of the hardest skills to achieve the first time.
This specialty class is a deep dive covering what you need to know to progress on nailing this move. We will start with the anatomy which reviews the key muscle engagements, and the biomechanics where you will learn the theory about how the gravitational and leverage forces come together for balance. We will look at common alignment and engagement errors, and how to correct them. Then we will spend some time on the poles.
We will mainly cover split grip, but cup and twisted grip mechanics will also be addressed. This class does not cover Handsprings or Ayesha variations.
Each student’s current progress will be assessed, even if that is still a Butterfly, and suggestions given for improvement. Strength and Conditioning exercises will also be given, also with exercises that you can do when you are away from a pole.
Pre-requisites: You MUST have a solid standard Butterfly, and be comfortable holding an Inverted Crucifix (solid leg grip in this). Bonus skills you could have but are not required to have: being comfortable getting into a reverse mount and/or pole drills for working caterpillar climb. Do not worry if you have not started working on ayesha officially as long as you have the requirements. Please contact Roxi if you aren’t sure about this class.
This class is $35 or 6 tokens, and is included on all Unlimited Passes.
