Arch Abness is back! Get ready to work on total core strength and back flexibility all month in your classes. We also have a couple of specialty classes on the horizon.
Welcome to Arch Abness!
Each month at Cleveland Eclectic Dance, we focus on a different skill, topic, style of dance, or body part in all of regular classes.
This month at CED, we’re focusing on building strength and flexibility in our core muscles.
We’ve smashed together what used to be Back Arch March and Abs April into an ultimate core month that is punny as hell. We’ll be building strength in all of the muscles of our core, not just the abdominals, to help support the flexibility we will be adding.
If back bends are your ultimate goal, our Flexibility Training class every Wednesday at 8pm can help you on your way.
Expect plenty of arches and core work in all of your other weekly classes as well.
Calling Cleveland Dancers:
Join Shimmy Mob 2023!
Shimmy Mob, which began in 2011, is Internationally held each year on World Belly Dance day in May. Belly Dancers from all over the globe, of all levels (yes including beginners) form dance teams and select local charities to their cities. The charities supported work within the realms of domestic violence and related abuse.
To put it briefly, we all learn the same dance, wear the same shirts, all dance in public on the same day in our respective cities, have a great time, and support survivors of domestic violence. CED has been involved in the past and has done 4 World Belly Dance days. We are super excited to have our resident Belly Dance Instructor, Aminah Louise, heading up the Cleveland Team for 2023.
Learn more and Sign-up at https://shimmymob.com/. When registering select the Cleveland, Ohio team. If you want to dance with us in person, select either package #2 (standard), or Package #3 (if you want the bonus material from Shimmy Mob). You’ll see the packages detailed on their website.
Once you are signed up, Aminah will be in contact with you soon about any rehearsals, charity, where we are dancing, etc. The dance is VERY beginner friendly and you can start learning it on the Shimmy Mob website as soon as you complete sign up. Aminah and Roxi can help you with any trouble spots, and there will be rehearsals as we get closer to the performance date.
- Performance Date: Saturday May 11, 2023
- REGISTRATION DEADLINE MARCH 31, 2023
(Shimmy Mob will not allow you to register after the deadline because they need to have thousands of t-shirts made and shipped to all the teams prior to May 11th.)
Upcoming Specialty Classes & Series
Inversion Training Series
Mondays, March 13th-April 3rd 7:30-8:30pm
In Studio Only
This series is for students levels 3 and up who are working on inverting but haven’t gotten there yet, and also for those who can invert but would like to strengthen the skill and/or work on other kinds of inversions.
We will start the first class going over the biomechanics of a standard invert, and each student will be assessed based on their current abilities and their goals. A slow motion invert assessment video will be created for each student between classes 1 & 2.
Strength and conditioning drills for the various aspects of inversion, as well as the muscle groups needed to execute the skill, will be explored in subsequent weeks by the whole class together.
Throughout class sessions, students will be individually guided in assessing the exercises they are learning to choose ones that will work best for their bodies.
The final week, each student will come away with a training plan that they can continue to build on. The plan is based on the work done in the first 3 weeks, and each student’s plan is tailored to them.
Since each week will build upon the last, it is important to commit to all 4 classes.
This class is $70 for all four weeks, and is included on all Unlimited Memberships and Pole Flex Passes. See less
Acro Chair Dance
Saturday, March 25th 1:15-2:45pm
In Studio Only
Add Acrobatic Chair Dance to your aerial repertoire in this 90 minute introductory class!
This class will focus exclusively on Acro Chair tricks, rather than sexy chair dance for yourself or a partner. We will be working on balancing and inverted tricks, and will put them together for a short flow.
It is highly recommended that you complete Beginner Chair Dance, Chair Dance, or have prior hand balancing or aerial experience before taking this class.
Leggings are required for class, and knee pads are recommended if you have them. Please feel free to bring heels if you are already comfortable in them. There will be an opportunity to try out the flow in heels at the end of class.
Space in this class is extremely limited so that the instructor can give students adequate attention and spotting during tricks.
THIS CLASS IS CURRENTLY WAITLISTED. Your card will automatically be charged if you move off of the waitlist.
This class is $25 per person, with special discounts available to CED students with a current pass.
